Comprehensive PFAS testing and TOP analysis for global applications

Eurofins Environment Testing provides advanced analytical services for a wide range of environmental and product matrices, including drinking water, groundwater, soil, sediment, tissue, biosolids, and consumer goods. Using LC/MS/MS and high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS), Eurofins Environment Testing laboratories support trace-level detection of PFAS and other emerging contaminants across international markets.

Dedicated PFAS laboratories with multiple dedicated systems run across extended shifts, enabling high-throughput capacity for projects of any scale. Flexible data deliverables are tailored to meet diverse regulatory and project requirements. Methodologies include the identification and quantification of branched and linear PFAS isomers, following internationally recognised protocols.

Eurofins Environment Testing’s deep scientific expertise, robust infrastructure, and continuous investment in technology ensure the delivery of highly sensitive, low-limit analyses that meet evolving global regulatory standards.

TOP analysis for comprehensive PFAS characterization

The Total Oxidizable Precursor (TOP) assay is a key technique for identifying unknown or hidden PFAS compounds in environmental samples. Through chemical oxidation using persulfate and hydroxide under heat, precursor compounds are transformed into more stable perfluorinated forms like PFOA or PFOS. These are then extracted and quantified via isotope dilution LC/MS/MS.

TOP analysis has shown that in materials like Aqueous Film Forming Foams (AFFF), up to 70% of total fluorinated organics may be overlooked without oxidation. Combining TOP assay results with standard PFAS screening provides a more complete and accurate picture of PFAS contamination.
