Testing and certification for motorcycle protective clothing

Riding a motorcycle is thrilling but comes with risks. Certified protective clothing can help prevent serious injuries in an accident. As personal protective equipment (PPE), motorcycle gear must comply with Regulation (EU) 2016/425 and relevant safety standards.

Motorcycle protective clothing standards

Riders' clothing (EN 17092)

Motorcycle jackets, pants, suits, and impact-resistant garments must meet EN 17092 safety classifications:

• Class AAA – Highest protection from impact and abrasion.
• Class AA – High protection for diverse riding conditions.
• Class A – Minimum necessary degree of protection from impact and abrasion
• Class B – Abrasion-resistant of Class A garments but lacks impact protectors.
• Class C – Designed to hold impact protectors, used as under/overgarments.

Protective gloves (EN 13594)

Motorcycle gloves must ensure protection while maintaining control. EN 13594 sets the requirements and test methods for safety compliance.

Protective footwear (EN 13634)

Motorcycle boots protect feet and lower legs while allowing full bike control. EN 13634 defines the required safety levels and testing methods.
