Relative susceptibility

Definition

Relative susceptibility is a measure of how resistant a crop variety is to a specific nematode species. It expresses the degree of multiplication of nematodes on that variety compared to a fully susceptible reference crop.

How It Is Determined

The calculation is based on:

  • Reference crop: Fully susceptible, assigned a multiplication value of 100%.
  • Test variety: Its multiplication rate is expressed as a percentage of the reference crop.

For example:

A variety with 10% relative susceptibility allows nematode multiplication at one-tenth the rate of a susceptible crop.
