Molybdenum (Mo) - soil and crop

Definition

Molybdenum (Mo) is involved in the formation of a number of enzymes and is needed for the fixation of nitrogen by leguminous plants.

Acidic soils and the presence of iron and aluminum oxides reduce Mo-availability. In some cases, liming soils can eliminate deficiencies in Mo.

Importance

Butterflies and vegetables have a high Mo requirement. Grasses and cereals require little Mo.
