Cobalt (Co) - cattle

Definition

Cobalt is an essential trace mineral for cattle, primarily needed for the synthesis of vitamin B12 by rumen microbes. Vitamin B12 supports energy metabolism and red blood cell formation.

Importance

Cobalt deficiency can lead to poor appetite, reduced growth, and anemia, especially in grazing cattle on cobalt-deficient soils.
